Please review our request for the new technology needed in our classroom. There are 8 new software programs listed, all are needed to build a solid foundation for our students that will raise their grades and test scores. These are curriculum based lessons that are designed to help students understand critical thinking and problem solving skills using interactive learning.
Also, included in the list is desperately needed hardware equipment. The new computers are needed to use the most updated technology available. Each computer will be used daily by the students utilizing the software, doing research, and/or writing papers. The interactive classroom technology hardware will provide our classroom with interesting lessons, creative activities and will motive the students. It will also give the teacher the ability to use the wireless remotes for daily quizzes and subject matter reviews. Also included on our list is an overhead projector for planned lessons and images that can be viewed by the whole class for group discussion and a printer/fax machine to print the students work.

This is the end of our submission. I did not want to delete the follow feed to show you the contribution of the team.

First, thanks for setting up the page
To get things started on this project I have written a brief summary of what I see as what we have to start with and possibly where we can go from here.
It is not expected that any or all of the information written below will become part of the final web page, it is just a list of ideas and suggestions. Would ask that the others of this group write down there thoughts also and then Saturday or Sunday we all can wade through them and creat a final product.

Start up items list:
5 outdated computers
1 new computer (for teacher)
1 DVD player
$6000.00 budget

Needs for classroom:
Update outdated computers? ; more memory and update operating system. (we decide just how out of date our computers are!) For these items there are several discount websites, such as tigerdirect.com or newegg.com
Update monitors (change to LCD)? a typical 22 inch LCD monitor costs $175.00
New video projector system ? $399.99
Add science based software programs? I found many possibilities at learningthings
DK ENCYCLOPEDIA SPACE & UNIVERSE CD-ROM $ 9.99
KID SCI: HUMAN BODY - CD-ROM - AGES 9+ $ 9.99
KID SCIENCE: BIOLOGY - CD-ROM - AGES 9+ $ 9.99
PINBALL SCIENCE 1.1 CD-ROM $19.99
SPEEDSTUDY: BIOLOGY - CD-ROM $9.99
SPEEDSTUDY: CHEMISTRY - CD-ROM $9.99
SPEEDSTUDY: PHYSICS 1 - CD-ROM $9.99

Science equipment and laboratory kits? Go see hobbytron.com
microscope $99.99
ant farm $19.99

While I was attending University of Florida, I taught for the physics lab department. I was given the opportunity to be a judge for the north central Florida middle school science fair held at UF. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but whats more important I saw just how much the 8th grade students enjoyed it also. It is a very big part of the curriculum at most middle schools. So I believe additionally funds could be set aside for science fair projects equipment or kits.

Beyond Question Interactive Classroom Technology- $1195.00

  • 25 Student Remotes
  • 1 Teacher Remote
  • 1 Reciever
  • 1 Software CD
  • 1 Custom Case

2 HP Remanufactured Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One Printers- $299.96
Total Monies Leftover- $5.04

For my $1500.00, I decided to incorporate some of the items I use for the classes I am taking here at UCF. I chose Interactive Student Response for our students. These remote controls are used to keep the students engaged in the discussion by making them actively participate. Each student can individually submit their answer on a remote that is smaller than a calculator. This will help gage each student's understanding of the material as well as keep them involved in the lesson. I also chose to buy two all in one printers for our classroom. One specifically for the teacher's use, and one linked to the student computers. These printers are wireless and can be used as scanners. These will be important for when the students need to do research in class or to print out work.

I think we should update the computers to the newest platform. Which is windows 7. I found some good prices on dell computers.

Dell Computers
$400 a computer and we need 5 computers so that's $2000.00 for up to date computers.

Lisa Roux
I like the ideas so far. We all agree to buy new computers, Coutney, I like what I have read about Interactive Student Response, but I think we should make sure we have einough money for standard computers first. Does everyone agree?

Courtney Sneed
That sounds like a good idea to me. Just let me know what I need to change!
